Edelman
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Edelman has during his 27-year career in the medical device field, held executive level positions at MicroSense International, LLC (bio-sensing), FibraSonics, Inc.(ultrasonic surgical products), NeuroMod, Inc.(neuro-stimulation technologies), St. Jude Medical, Inc.(NYSE: STJ), Pfizer, Inc. (NYSE: PFE), and Baxter International, Inc. (NYSE: BAX). Since leaving St. Jude Medical in 1996, Mr. Edelman has focused his attention on development stage companies. During his tenure as Chairman & CEO of MicroSense LLC, Mr. Edelman raised over $4M in late seed and first round financing for the development of an innovative glucose detection technology. Mr. Edelman guided the successful sale of MicroSense to Becton Dickinson & Company (NYSE:BDX) at the close of 2003.
Prior to MicroSense, Mr. Edelman held the position of President, Member of Board of Directors, FibraSonics, Inc., a privately held ultrasonic surgical products company with sales in neurosurgery, urology, ophthalmology, and plastic surgery. Under his guidance, FibraSonics received 7 FDA approvals for new innovative surgical products. After successfully raising $3M in private equity financing, Mr. Edelman successfully closed the sale of FibraSonics to Misonix, Inc., (NASDQ: MSON) during February, 2001.
Prior to Fibrasonics, Mr. Edelman held the position of President, CEO, NeuroMod, Inc., a venture backed start up focused on neurostimulation for chronic disease treatment in asthma, migraine, irritable bowel disease and post-operative recovery. As a medical device industry consultant, Mr. Edelman advised Argomed, Inc., an Israeli venture backed medical device start-up focused on less-invasive treatment for benign prostatic hypertrophy. Mr. Edelman advised the Cleveland Clinic Foundation on sale of an innovative ventricular assist technology to Arrow International (NASDQ: ARRO) in 2000.
As Director, Research and Development for St. Jude Medical Cardiac Assist Division, Mr. Edelman was responsible for development and management of internal and external development teams focused on intra-aortic balloon catheter technology. As Director, Schneider Laser Division, Pfizer, Inc. (NYSE: PFE), Mr. Edelman led the development of excimer laser assisted coronary angioplasty products. William Edelman graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1978. Mr. Edelman has been issued 16 U.S. patents and is an applicant on 12 additional pending patent applications.
William
C. McJames
Vice President Product Development
William C. McJames joined TyRx Pharma Inc., in March 2005 as Vice President of
Product Development. Mr. McJames holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree
from Lehigh University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration with a
Finance Concentration from Rider University, and has over 20 years of experience
in the design, development and introduction of medical devices. Prior to joining
TyRx, Mr. McJames served as the Director of R&D for the Cardiovations Division
of Ethicon, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson Co., (NYSE: JNJ) subsidiary. Mr. McJames
has held several prior managerial positions for Ethicon, with responsibilities
for Operations, Engineering and Business Development. Mr. McJames has been issued
14 U.S. patents for medical devices, medical technology manufacturing processes,
and clinical methods for the deployment of innovative medical technology.
Arikha
Moses, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Moses founded TyRx Pharma Inc. and served as its President
until June 2000. As a former Vice President of Athena
Ventures, LLC, a seed-stage venture capital firm focused
on life science and biotechnology companies, Dr. Moses
structured several biotechnology companies and directed
them through their pre-clinical development phases. Dr.
Moses most recently served as the Director of Research
and Development for Helix Therapeutics, a company focused
on new products for the treatment and prevention of fibrotic
diseases such as restenosis. As the Director of R&D,
she negotiated the company’s first corporate and
manufacturing partnerships. Prior to joining Athena, she
was a Research Associate at ImmunoGen, Inc., in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. Dr. Moses earned a Ph.D. in bioorganic
chemistry from Yale University and a B.A., with honors
in chemistry, from Brandeis University.
Ray Imp
Chief Financial Officer
Ray joined TyRx Pharma Inc. in January 2006 as its Chief Financial Officer, bringing with him over 25
years experience in finance. Prior to joining TyRx, Mr. Imp’s responsibilities ranged from Vice President of Finance with a start-up consulting and acquisition company (ICM Industries) which grew to $500 million in revenue … to Vice President of Finance at Alcan Pharmaceutical Packaging, a $900 million global operation. Mr. Imp’s functional expertise lies in Budgeting, Financial Reporting, Strategic Planning, Acquisitions, and Operational/Financial Restructuring. Ray received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and his MBA from the University of Virginia.
Robert Mattioli
Vice President of Commercial Development
Mr. Mattioli has more than 30 years of successful sales and marketing experience in the cardiovascular device industry, with specific skills centered on cardiac therapies, including Pacemakers, ICDs, heart valves, EP and interventional catheters, as well as related capital equipment. He has held key sales and marketing management positions for corporations such as St. Jude Medical, Biotronik Inc., Guidant/CPI, and Cordis Corporation. Most recently, as VP Global Sales for Cryocath Technologies Inc., Mr. Mattioli was the principal architect for the successful commercial global adoption of cryoablation technology for cardiac arrhythmia applications. In this role he grew a new emerging technology for cardiac EP and Surgical applications to a $40M run rate within 4 years of its commercial inception in the USA.
Mark Citron
Vice President Clinical and Regulatory Affairs
Mark Citron has worked within the regulated medical products industry both in the US and internationally for over 20 years. Most recently he has served as a corporate officer of BioMimetic Therapeutics, Inc. with global responsibilities in preclinical, clinical, and product development and approval, involving drugs, devices, biologics and tissue based products and their combination. The company has grown from a market valuation of $5M with 4 employees to over $300M with 70+ employees within 5 years. Mr. Citron has previously held positions of increasing responsibility in product development, regulatory, and quality. He served with the US Food and Drug Administration for over 4 years where he was a scientific (microbiology) reviewer and field inspector. Subsequently, he was with Johnson and Johnson for 4 years, Bristol-Myers Squibb for 5 years and Genzyme Tissue Repair for 3 years. Therapeutic areas covered in his career included orthopedics, OB-GYN, wound care, hemostasis, dermatology and cardiovascular. In addition, he has served on numerous standards committees and industry organizations to include the ASTM, AdvaMed, Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), Orthopedic Surgical Manufacturers Association (OSMA), American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and coauthored several articles and book chapters. He is Certified in Regulatory Affairs (RAC) and was a certified lead assessor (ISO-9001). He holds a BS from the U of Mass- Amherst and an MS in Microbiology and Health Sciences from Wagner College.
Gary Young
Vice President of Marketing
Mr. Young has over 25 years of increasing leadership positions within the cardiovascular device industry, with emphasis being within cardiac surgery, implantable pacemakers and heart valves. He has held senior level sales and marketing positions moving from sales representative to Vice President, Sales and Marketing for organizations such as Medtronic, Pacesetter/St Jude, Sulzer Carbomedics and Edwards Lifesciences. While at Medtronic, Mr. Young was nominated for the Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award and launched the world's mostly widely prescribed single, chamber rate responsive pacemaker generating $144.3 million annual revenue 1st year post launch. Mr. Young has launched over 40 life science technology products, has extensive global experience and has developed and executed global sales and marketing strategies for some of the world's most successful device companies. Mr. Young served in the United States Marine Corps and holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and a MBA received from the University of Oklahoma.
Satish
Pulapura, Ph.D.
Director of Polymer Research & Development
Dr. Pulapura has served as the Director of Research and
Development at TyRx Pharma since its founding. He is co-inventor
of the company’s patented technology based on the
tyrosine derived monomers (with his Ph.D. advisor Prof.
J. Kohn), which has been awarded the Thomas Alva Edison
Outstanding Patent Award. After obtaining his MS in polymer
chemistry from the University of Madras, Dr. Pulapura
joined Rutgers University and obtained his Ph.D. in organic
chemistry. He then completed his post doctoral research
training at the University of Massachusetts where he investigated
modifications of natural polymers and enzyme-catalyzed
polymer synthesis. Prior to joining TyRx Pharma, Inc.,
he was a Research Associate in the Research and Technology
group at Smith Kline Beecham. Dr. Pulapura has 8 scientific
publications, 2 patents and has made several presentations
at Scientific Conferences.
Pamela
Amsbaugh
Controller
During her professional experience, Ms. Amsbaugh has directed
various operational and financial aspects of diverse organizations.
Ms. Amsbaugh has a wide background including PC technology,
support and training for clients.
Recently, Ms. Amsbaugh was assistant controller for a private equity management
firm and has over 15 years of accounting and financial reporting experience. She
was responsible for the development of the financial reporting formats, accounting
protocols and software implementation for this company. She was responsible for
implementing operational changes in the accounting department resulting in a 50%
increase in productivity and a 25% reduction in costs. Pamela was also responsible
for implementing new multi-company accounting software which reduced data input
time by 15%. Prior to this, Ms. Amsbaugh was a software consultant for Eisner
Computer Solutions and JHC Software Associates where she developed and implemented
the installation of accounting software solutions and financial reports for clients.
Ms. Amsbaugh holds a B.S. in Finance from Rutgers School of Business and is currently
pursuing her MBA from the University of Baltimore, Merrick School of Business.
